The 4th Karolinska Institute Advanced Renal Nutrition Course
April 18, 2012
During 15th February to the 17th of February 2012 an international audience and faculty gathered at Karolinska Institute for the 4th Advanced Renal Nutrition Course organized by the Department of Renal Medicine. The meeting was endorsed by renowned societies such as International Society of Renal Nutrition and Metabolism (IRSNM), European Renal Association-European Dialysis and Transplantation Association (ERA-EDTA) and the Spanish Society of Nephrology (SEN).
The course’s objective was to bring together experienced professionals from multidisciplinary fields involving nutrition and kidney disease, in order to improve best practices and promote discussion on how to bridge the gap between nutritional science and renal clinical practice. Under low temperatures and lots of snow, 70 participants from more than 15 countries deepened into this subject.
The intensive two-day course included discussions on the pathogenesis of protein energy wasting (PEW), nutritional requirements, nutritional assessment tools and nutrimental interventions in chronic kidney disease (CKD).
